Patti Plett is a Registered Occupational Therapist based in Calgary, Alberta. She has a passionate interest in one-on-one wellness therapy, social justice, mental health, and finding optimal solutions for people with disabilities. Areas of Focus:
- To provide occupational therapy services in a safe, collaborative and client-centred environment.
- To facilitate participation in meaningful activity through obtaining the optimal fit between the person, important roles and activities, and the environment.
- To improve the personal well being (mind-body-spirit) and sense of contribution to society of individuals experiencing marginalization.
- To identify solutions and address barriers to participation in meaningful activity by:
- Working together with community or government agencies in supporting individuals (e.g. case management, functional assessments providing useful information to support funding requests).
- Providing one-on-one support and recommendations to improve quality of life.
- Providing workshop opportunities to facilitate growth in personal well-being through increased self awareness and improved life balance. Examples: journaling, mental health awareness and strategies, assertive communication, stress management.
- Providing adaptive music lessons to individuals with disabilities including learning disabilities, physical disabilities and developmental disabilities.
- Conducting research on best practice for working with individuals who are marginalized (e.g. homelessness, mental illness, community accessibility).
- Providing workshops and learning opportunities to organizations and groups on accessibility and working with individuals who are marginalized.

- Piano / keyboard lessons for individuals with disabilities (e.g. learning disabilities, FAS, ADHD, physical disabilities, hearing impairments, anxiety)

Previous Experience:
- Experience working in community-based agencies
- Experience working in the mental health field as well as with marginalized populations
- Personal experience as a person with a disability
- Strengths in advocacy, assessment and funding requests and complex case management
- Diverse work experience prior to entering the field of occupational therapy including teaching music lessons to people with disabilities, doing office work, working in a lab, conducting research, participation as a representative on student council, and teaching anatomy and physiology.
